CDBG Technical Assistance - Getting Ready!

Each year, communities request assistance with the submittal of a CDBG application to the State of Maine’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program.  One of the most critical issue is the readiness.  Because of the reduced budget in the CDBG Program, competition among Maine communities is severe.  It is therefore extremely important that communities be made aware of the rigorous task they need to accomplish if their CDBG application is to be successful.  Here are some steps that should prepare you!

STEP ONE:   schedule a meeting with northern maine development commission to discuss cdbg requirements and the proposed project

STEP TWO:    form a community development advisory committee

STEP THREE:  conduct survey and/or gather information

STEP FOUR:   write first draft of application and submit to community for comments

STEP FIVE:   schedule second meeting with community and community development advisory committee in conjunction with a public hearing

STEP SIX:   finalize application

These are time consuming steps that are necessary if a CDBG application is to be successful.  The average period of time to accomplish these steps is one year.  During Steps Two and Three, NMDC will assist communities with the completion of an environmental review of the proposed project, assist in obtaining the required matching funds from various other agencies, and will assist with other necessary criteria to fulfill the requirements of the CDBG program.
