Northern Border Regional Commission

Northern Maine Development Commission (NMDC) provides technical and grant administration assistance to entities in their service area, acting as a Local Development District identified by Northern Border Regional Commission (NBRC). As an LDD, NMDC provides services throughout the pre-application and application process, active grant period, and closeout.

NBRC-funded projects must align with the NBRC mission, satisfy State Economic Development priorities, and Administration priorities.

All NBRC projects require a minimum 20% applicant match. Match may be composed of public or private funds, volunteer, or in-kind contributions.

There are three programs operated by NBRC:

Catalyst Program

Catalyst, NBRC’s flagship program, is designed to stimulate economic growth and foster relationships that improve rural economic vitality throughout its four-state region. There is a wide range of projects eligible for the program.

For more information, you can view the Catalyst Grant Program Manual here.

Forest Economy Program

The Forest Economy Program is designed to support the forest-based economy and its technological development in accordance with state-identified development plans.

For more information, you can view the Forest Economy Program Manual here.

Timber for Transit Program

The Timber for Transit Program, similarly to the Forest Economy Program, is designed to support the forest-economy with particular emphasis on the immersion of domestic wood-based products in the development of transportation and transportation adjacent infrastructure.
